All,

The Shrew Soft VPN client now supports all features planned for
the 1.0 release. A lot of work was done to bring it in line with the
ipsec-tools CVS version. This includes support for new XAuth user
authentication methods as well as automatic policy configuration using
the extended modecfg facility. In addition, traditional road-warrior
access methods are also supported. For a complete list of features and
requirements, please review the howto document available from the
download page.

This client software is freeware. When coupled with a vpn gateway
running ipsec-tools, it can be used as an alternative to expensive
commercial vpn gateway solutions that support win32 clients. While this
software does include advanced features such as Nat Traversal, Packet
Pre Fragmentation, Hybrid XAuth and automatic client configuration, it
is still missing some options that are available in the more popular
commercial products. For example, if your remote access needs include
support for split DNS or stateful client side firewall, this software
may not be a good fit for your environment.
