Brian and Peter,

I was having problems with my WinXP client test box. Now that I have it 
sorted out I was able to test the new alpha2 and this is the result ...

... I believe the problem is resolved as the new default route is being 
created with a metric of 1. It would appear that the DHCP assigned 
default route is getting a metric of 10 with my stock XP install. Do you 
see similar results? If so I will merge this new code into the 1.0 branch.
