Jakob,

     I haven't tried the client with strong/free swan myself but Jacco 
de Leeuw was nice enough to post some helpful information on the 
openswan list not too long ago. He included an example of a working .vpn 
file that can be imported into the shrew soft vpn connection manager 
that worked with his openswan configuration.
