All,

I am pleased to announce the Shrew Soft VPN Client 2.0 Release is
now available for download. This release is the result of 10+ months of
work and provides a more mature and stable solution than previous
versions. Thanks to everyone who provided bug reports and feedback. For
a complete list of features and requirements, please review the full
documentation available on our website.

I had hoped to include support for the Windows XP amd64 platform in
this release but decided to hold off. Building native binaries meant
moving to Visual Studio 2005 which required more changes than I felt
comfortable including. As a result, I have also made a 2.0.1 alpha
release available for early adopters which supports the new target.
Vista support is also in the works but requires that a new kernel driver
be written to replace the intermediate driver that is currently in use.
I will make an announcement regarding this when more information becomes
available.

This software is freeware. When coupled with a VPN gateway running
ipsec-tools, it can be used as an alternative to expensive commercial
solutions that support win32 clients. While this software does include
advanced features such as Split Tunneling, Split DNS, Nat Traversal, IKE
Fragmentation, Packet Pre Fragmentation, Dead Peer Detection, Hybrid
XAuth and automatic client configuration, it is still missing some
options that are available in the more popular commercial products. For
example, if your remote access needs include support for VPN enabled
domain login or stateful client side firewall, this software may not be
a good fit for your environment.
