[Vpn-help] Client Development Update

All,

I have been a bit quiet on the lists lately. Just wanted to send out a
quick development update.

For those following the todo list, the next big ticket item on the list
is Vista support. This requires a new set of drivers that adhere to the
NDIS 6 standard. The Shrew Soft client uses two NDIS kernel mode drivers
to provide IPsec functionality. The the more complex of the two is a
filter driver that handles packet evaluation and diversion. The other is
a very simple virtual network driver that acts as a dummy target for the
Windows IP stack. I am pleased to announce that the filter driver is
about 95% complete. With a bit of finagling, I was able to create a
tunnel with several gateways in my lab and successfully pass traffic
back and forth. The next step will be to port the virtual network driver
which should be done by this weekend. I hope to release a new alpha
build next week that contains preliminary support for both 32bit and
64bit Vista systems. Wish me luck :)

The next few items on the todo list should improve compatibility with
Checkpoint, Sidewinder and Open/FreeSWAN gateways. For those who have
been waiting patiently for progress in this area, please forgive me. I
hope to refocus my attention on this work very soon.

Thanks,

-Matthew
