I am considering going back to my own manual and time-consuming FreeBSD desktop 
build, and not using PC-BSD, so a port is probably better to have first.

I have thought about it a few times, but that was back in the day when creating 
PBI's was quite a chore to create and maintain. A FreeBSD port for the Shrew 
Soft VPN Client already exists, but its horribly outdated ...

I actually just sent an PR to update it to 2.1.7 last week so I hope to see it 
committed soon ...

If I remember correctly, creating a PBI for an existing port became much easier 
at some point. I'm just not sure how hard it would be to handle dependencies, 
especially since 2.1.x uses an antiquated version of Qt. The head branch ( 2.2.x 
) has newer Qt4 based components which is much more common these days.
