Ian,
I'm just a user like yourself and I experienced what sounds to me to be the same problem.
The problem is that the IP addressed that gets assigned by the VPN gateway to the VPN client is indeed giving an IP address that is the same (subnet) as the user's local LAN.
Change the mode config of the VPN gateway to give something else (I use 192.168.2.x) and that seems to work well for everyone. I made the change on the VPN gateway, not on the client. Nobody is inconvenienced that way and it seems to work OK.

Post to the forum your findings.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi, I have a problem with the Shrew Soft Windows VPN client and would like to
ubmit the following bug report:
Problem:
ecently changed from Junipers VPN client to Shrew Soft's VPN client for
indows. I happily completed all testing without a problem. After the users
witched some of them complained of various behaviour such as:
onnects RDP client for a short while(10-20 mins) then disconnects and refuses
o reconnect.
unnel comes up, until try they to connect the RDP client, then the tunnel
rops.
unnel comes up, but RDP client fails to connect.
After some time, it emerged that the users experiencing these problems were
sing home connections that used the same subnet range as our internal network
192.168.1.0/24 for example). I am hoping that because other VPN client software
an cope with this situation, this is not an insurmountable problem.
VPN Client Version : 2.1.5-release (have also tried 2.1.6-rc-1) Windows OS :
indows Vista and XP Gateway Make/Model: Juniper SSG-140 Gateway OS version: 5.4

est regards,
Ian Fraser
