[vpn-help] gateway authentication error

What are the causes of a "gateway authentication error"?
I see this on my Macbook Pro running OS Lion

It runs fine on my Windows 7 machine.
I believe everything is configured the same.

Here is what I see:

config loaded for site 'SELERANT BROOKLYN'
attached to key daemon ...
peer configured
iskamp proposal configured
esp proposal configured
client configured
local id configured
remote id configured
pre-shared key configured
bringing up tunnel ...
gateway authentication error
tunnel disabled
detached from key daemon
