Stefan,

I am out of the country at the moment so my ability to test is a bit
limited. Once I get back ( about 12 days ) I can look into this more
throughly. Another thing to test is if you can access another type of
service on the VPN client machine. I would start with something simple like
enabling the telnet daemon and attempting to connect to it instead of the
CIFS share. Also, what kind of VPN gateway are you using?
